Armchair Travel: Sioux City Riverside History

The Riverside area of Sioux City provided a variety of industries and recreational opportunities for Siouxland's citizens in the past 170 years. From fur trading to brick making and from summertime picnics to agricultural fairs, Riverside has offered much to Siouxland. The slow current of the Big Sioux River gave people a place to gather, boat, or fish. The Loess Hill's soil gave brick makers the right stuff for their products that built many Siouxland businesses and homes. Other industries such as the Big Sioux Power Plant, the railroad yards, and large flower and vegetable greenhouses, provided jobs. Explore Riverside's past and present in this Armchair Travel presentation by Grace Linden, former curator of history at the Sioux City Public Museum.
