Don't Lose Out On Free Tuition

The deadline for free tuition has been extended! You must complete your FAFSA by midnight on July 31. Follow these steps on how to get free tuition for high-demand careers in Iowa.

In order to qualify for free tuition, you must complete your FAFSA by midnight on July 31. You will need WITCC Federal School Code - 004590. We have created a list of helpful tips and ways to avoid the most common FAFSA mistakes. You can read our FAFSA tips here.

Finished Your FAFSA? Take the Next Step!

The next step is applying to Western Iowa Tech Community College by filling out our free online application. Your financial aid is processed after you apply to WITCC. To apply to the college, you will need to create an account. Keep your username and password handy, so that you can start and stop your application at any time. We will save your progress.

Check "My Financial Aid" on MyWIT

A few days after completing your WITCC application, you will receive your college acceptance letter. The letter contains your MyWIT login credentials. Make sure you hang onto this information. Use your credentials to log onto MyWIT. MyWIT is the student portal which contains all of your financial aid information, grades, schedules, and more.

In MyWIT, check your school email and My Financial Aid section often. It's how the college communicates with you about your financial aid awards, notifications, and billing statements.

More About Free Tuition

Free tuition is made possible by the Last-Dollar Scholarship, a part of an initiative to help the state of Iowa fill high-demand jobs. Because finances can be a barrier to attending college, the Last-Dollar Scholarship covers the cost of tuition toward a diploma or Associate of Applied Science degree aligned with a high-need field. People like you are needed to keep Iowa competitive and ready for the future. Now a scholarship is available to help Iowa residents get the training needed for a good-paying, 21st century jobs.

Who Is Eligible?

New High School Graduates

  • Enrolled in college full-time
  • Enter college in the fall or spring following high school graduation
  • Resident of Iowa
  • Plan to earn a Diploma (one-year degree) or Associate of Applied Science (two-year degree) aligned with a designated high-demand job
  • Have applied for all other available aid
  • Graduated from an Iowa high school

Adults (Ages 20 and Over)

  • Enrolled in college part-time or full-time
  • Resident of Iowa
  • Plan to earn a Diploma (one-year degree) or Associate of Applied Science (two-year degree) aligned with a designated high-demand job
  • Have applied for all other available aid

Ongoing Requirements

  • Must apply for all other available financial aid
  • Remain an Iowa resident
  • Attend orientation
  • Meet and register for courses with an advisor
  • Continuously receive a Last-Dollar Scholarship disbursement in each semester/term (summer semester/term is not required)
  • Make satisfactory academic progress
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year
  • Remain continuously enrolled in the required number of hours per semester (summer semester is not required):
  • Recent high school graduates, at least 12 hours
  • Adult students, at least six hours
  • Award Limits
  • Recent high school graduates may receive Last-Dollar Scholarship for up to five full-time semesters
  • Adult students may receive the Last-Dollar Scholarship for up to eight part-time semesters or the full-time equivalent.
