Western Iowa Tech Community College will host a series of events in September focused on citizenship, civic engagement, voter education, and participation in the democratic process.
Activities include Coffee with the Candidates, National Voter Registration Day, Constitution Day programming, and a Naturalization Ceremony welcoming new United States citizens. Together, these events offer students, employees, and community members opportunities to learn more about citizenship, elections, and civic participation.
Coffee with the Candidates
September 14–24 | Various Times and Locations
Coffee with the Candidates presents students, employees, and community members with opportunities to meet candidates appearing on upcoming ballots in a casual, informal setting.
Attendees can hear directly from candidates, ask questions, and learn more about their positions on issues affecting the campus and community. Coffee and pastries will be provided.

National Voter Registration Day
Tuesday, September 15 | All Day | Near Overlook Café
Students, employees, and members of the public are welcome to participate in National Voter Registration Day. The League of Women Voters will be on campus to help facilitate nonpartisan voter registration and provide information and assistance throughout the day. Eligible individuals can receive help registering to vote in their state of residence, updating a name or address, preparing to request an absentee ballot, and finding information about voting rights and eligibility.
The event is focused on voter registration and access, without candidate or party advocacy. Voter registration assistance is also available year-round at the college library.
Constitution Day: The Path to U.S. Citizenship
Thursday, September 17 | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Cargill Auditorium
In recognition of Constitution Day, an educational presentation will explore the naturalization process and what it takes to become a United States citizen.
Naturalization Ceremony
Friday, September 18 | 1:30 p.m. | Rocklin Conference Center
A Naturalization Ceremony will be held in the Rocklin Conference Center on the Sioux City campus, bringing together new United States citizens and their families with students, employees, community leaders, and representatives from federal agencies and congressional offices.
New citizens will take the Oath of Allegiance as they complete their journey to U.S. citizenship. The ceremony recognizes their determination and accomplishments while providing an opportunity to learn more about the rights, responsibilities, and shared values of citizenship.
All events are open to the public, and community members are welcome to attend. The series offers students and the broader community opportunities to become more knowledgeable about the election process, voter participation, the path to citizenship, and the many ways individuals can engage with and learn about the civic process.
