Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) is excited to welcome 85 middle school students to its STEM Achievers summer camp beginning June 8 on the Sioux City campus. The free, three-week program runs June 8 through June 25 and provides a hands-on STEM experience for students entering grades 6 through 8.

STEM Achievers empowers middle school students to explore emerging technologies, develop problem-solving skills, and envision themselves in future STEM careers. Through engaging, project-based learning experiences focused on design thinking, 3D printing, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and social entrepreneurship, students are given the tools to innovate, create, and make a positive impact in their communities.

"We're excited to provide students with an opportunity to discover new interests and explore future careers through STEM," said Steven Garcia, WITCC Director of Outreach and camp coordinator. "The students get to try out new technologies like drones, artificial intelligence, and 3D printing. They meet new people, work on exciting projects, and get inspired by what's possible in STEM. It's incredibly rewarding to see them light up with curiosity and excitement."

The camp is made possible through the support and sponsorship of the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), a national organization dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation through community colleges. Thanks to this partnership, participation in STEM Achievers is offered at no cost to students. Campers enjoy a full day of hands-on activities, mentorship, snacks, and free daily lunch in a collaborative environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and exploration.

The camp will conclude with a community showcase on June 25, where students will present their projects, share what they have learned, and be recognized for their achievements during the program. Additional details about the showcase will be announced at a later date.

STEM Achievers gives students the opportunity to experience a college environment while building friendships, exploring new ideas, and gaining exposure to emerging technologies. Through hands-on learning and exploration, the program helps inspire the next generation of innovators, creators, and leaders.
