Western Iowa Tech Community College (WIT) is excited to host its new Health Careers Exploration Camp June 15-18, giving area youth in grades 6-8 an opportunity to discover the world of healthcare through hands-on activities, career exploration, and interactive learning experiences.

The four-day camp will introduce students to a variety of healthcare professions, including nursing, physical therapist assistant, medical assistant, dental assistant, emergency medical services (EMS), health information technology, and pharmacy technician.

Throughout the camp, participants will rotate through different healthcare programs and engage in activities that provide a glimpse into real-world careers. Students will practice basic patient care skills, explore how medical records are managed, learn about medication preparation, and discover how healthcare professionals work together to provide quality patient care.

Campers will learn directly from WIT faculty and healthcare professionals while gaining valuable insight into the skills, responsibilities, and educational pathways associated with each field. Through interactive activities and hands-on experiences, students will build confidence, develop new skills, and gain a better understanding of careers that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives every day.

Designed for students entering grades 6-8 in the 2026-27 school year, the camp encourages exploration, curiosity, and discovery while showcasing the many career opportunities available within healthcare. By the end of the week, participants will leave with a greater awareness of healthcare professions and the important role they play in communities across the region.
