Western Iowa Tech Community College will celebrate the official launch of its new student-run FM radio station, KWSR-LP 94.3 FM, on Friday, October 3, 2025. Developed by the Mass Communications Department at Western Iowa Tech, the station will be introduced with a Siouxland Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting at 12:00 p.m., followed by public tours of the department from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tours will include the KWSR studio, Mass Communications labs, TV production spaces, recording facilities, and more. Events will be held on the Sioux City campus, located at 4647 Stone Avenue, with entry through Parking Lot 3, Entrance 10. Light refreshments and treats will be provided by WIT’s Culinary students to celebrate the occasion.
The launch coincides with College Radio Day, an annual 24-hour celebration of student-run radio stations around the world. To mark the occasion, WITCC students will take over Comet Radio for a full day of live, student-curated broadcasting on 94.3 FM. The celebration will feature a wide selection of music and programming with talented student DJs broadcasting throughout the day from the Comet Radio studio.
College Radio Day was founded in December 2010 on the campus of Saint Xavier University, Chicago. This annual event raises awareness of college radio stations nationwide. Comet Radio has been participating in the event since 2017 and is the recipient of the 2017 Spirit of College Radio Award.
