Western Iowa Tech Community College's Band Instrument Repair program welcomes back the annual National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT) Regional Clinic, taking place February 20–21, 2026, and bringing professional repair technicians from across the country to Sioux City for two days of learning and collaboration.
Hosted in partnership with NAPBIRT, the clinic supports education and professional growth within the field. During the two-day event, experienced clinicians will share practical techniques and industry knowledge while working alongside both fellow technicians and Western Iowa Tech students.
"This clinic brings industry professionals together to learn from one another and continue refining their craft," said Mark Schmedinghoff, WITCC Band Instrument Repair Technology Instructor. "It also gives our students valuable insight by allowing them to learn directly from experts who are actively working in the field. That real-world exposure makes a lasting impact on their education."
Students in the college's Band Instrument Repair program will participate in sessions throughout the clinic, gaining firsthand experience from seasoned professionals and building meaningful industry connections. Direct interaction with national presenters exposes students to real-world expectations and advanced skill development, strengthening both their technical ability and professional confidence.
Western Iowa Tech's Band Instrument Repair program offers a highly specialized, two-year educational pathway devoted entirely to the craft of band instrument repair. Through an intensive, hands-on curriculum focused on brass and woodwind restoration, fabrication, and advanced repair techniques, students develop the precision and expertise required in this skilled trade. The program's strong industry partnerships and active involvement with professional organizations such as NAPBIRT further distinguish it as a leader in preparing graduates for successful careers.
