The Western Iowa Tech Community College Early Childhood Education Club is hosting its annual Scholastic Book Fair this week, December 1-5, on the Sioux City campus. The fair is open to students, employees, families, and the community.

The Book Fair is located in Room A11L, lower level. Hours are listed on the event flyer, and the public is welcome to browse a wide variety of children’s books, early learning resources, and gift items throughout the week.

In addition to in-person shopping, online ordering is available for families and supporters at:

www.scholastic.com/bf/westerniowatechchildcare

Proceeds from the Book Fair support Western Iowa Tech’s Early Childhood Education programs and the Education Club’s community outreach efforts. In past years, funds have helped provide books, classroom supplies, and early learning materials to local childcare organizations such as Head Start, strengthening literacy and learning opportunities for children across the region.

A special Free Winter Crafts event will be held Thursday, December 4, from 4–6 p.m. in Room A07L. All WITCC students are invited - “you’re never too old to craft” - and families and children are welcome to join.

About WITCC’s Early Childhood Programs

Early Childhood Education (AAS)

This associate-degree program prepares students to develop, manage, and evaluate early childhood programs, and to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for children from birth through age eight. The program emphasizes skills needed to support culturally, linguistically, and ability-diverse children and their families, and prepares graduates for roles such as lead teacher, assistant teacher, director, site manager, or owner of in-home child care.

Early Childhood Education Teacher Licensure (AA)

This transfer-major program is designed for students planning to become early-childhood or elementary-grade teachers (birth through third grade). It provides a broad foundation of general education knowledge, along with early childhood coursework, to help students prepare for licensure programs at four-year institutions. (Please note: Completing this AA program alone does not grant Iowa teacher licensure — students must transfer to complete a bachelor’s degree and state-approved teacher-preparation program.)
