Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) celebrated Veterans Day with a week of activities designed to honor and support those who have served in the armed forces. Through educational events, volunteer opportunities, and community partnerships, students and staff came together to show gratitude for veterans in our community.
Letters and Messages for Veterans
WITCC partnered with Bellevue University to connect with students and create heartfelt messages, cards, and letters to send to veterans. This collaboration encouraged students to reflect on the sacrifices made by service members while offering personal words of appreciation and encouragement.
Women’s Soccer Team Serves at Hy-Vee Veterans Day Meal
Members of the WITCC Women’s Soccer team volunteered their time at Hy-Vee to assist with the Veterans Day meal, helping serve local veterans and their families. The event provided an opportunity for students to give back to those who have given so much, sharing in conversation and community connection throughout the day.
TRIO Program Hosts Three Days of Veteran-Focused Events
The TRIO program is hosting a three-day series of events focused on supporting and honoring veterans. On Monday, history instructor and Vietnam veteran Ralph Swain presented The Origins of the Vietnam War: Missed Opportunities and Failed Intelligence in coordination with the Lifelong Learning program.
Today, Tuesday, the celebration continues with a Veterans Day Flag Ceremony followed by a Veteran’s Panel at 11 a.m. in the Cargill Auditorium. The series concludes Wednesday with a Supporting Veterans and Their Families luncheon in the Dr. Dunker Student Center.
A Community of Gratitude
Across campus and throughout Siouxland, WITCC students, staff, and partners demonstrated their appreciation for veterans through learning, service, and connection. The week’s events reflected the college’s commitment to honoring those who serve and ensuring their stories and sacrifices are never forgotten.
