Dr. Terry A. Murrell, President of Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC), has announced his plans to retire, effective May 15, 2026.
President Dr. Murrell, who was hired in 2007 as Vice President of Instruction and Student Services and has served as president since 2011, has guided WITCC through transformative growth, strengthening student success, expanding partnerships, and enhancing the college's role in the communities it serves.
"Serving alongside our faculty, staff, and students has been one of the greatest privileges of my career," Dr. Murrell said. "Together, we have navigated challenges, celebrated milestones, and most importantly, made a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and the communities we serve."
During his presidency, WITCC nearly tripled our graduation rate, introduced athletics, established a food pantry, a health center, and expanded our mental health services, while also reinventing ourselves by refreshing our mission and values statements and our college brand. His leadership has left a lasting impact on both the college and the region.
As Dr. Murrell prepares for retirement, he expressed confidence in the future of WITCC: "I am proud of what we have accomplished and know the college will continue to thrive in the years ahead. It has been an honor to serve as president."
The WITCC Board of Directors will begin the process of selecting the next president later this year. More details will be shared as the transition plans develop.
