Western Iowa Tech Community College President Dr. Terry Murrell has been selected to receive the prestigious Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award from Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
The award recognizes retiring college presidents whose leadership reflects a long-standing commitment to student success and the mentorship of student leaders. Recipients are nominated by their Phi Theta Kappa students in recognition of meaningful support and advocacy that has made a difference across generations.
Dr. Murrell's selection highlights his dedication to student achievement and his strong support of Western Iowa Tech's Phi Theta Kappa chapter. Throughout his tenure, he has championed opportunities that empower students to grow as scholars, leaders, and community members.
He will be honored at Phi Theta Kappa's Annual Convention, held March 26 to 28, 2026, at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The award will be presented during the Third General Session on Friday, March 27, before thousands of students, advisors, college presidents, and guests from across the country. The session will feature advocate, astronaut, and author Amanda Nguyen, recognized as the first Vietnamese and Southeast Asian woman in space.
