New talent, new field, and new energy across all programs

As Western Iowa Tech Community College prepares to welcome students back to campus, Comets Athletics is already building momentum for what promises to be a competitive and exciting 2025–2026 season.

The Comets will field teams in five programs this year: men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's basketball, and esports. With a blend of returning student-athletes and promising newcomers, each team enters the year with a renewed sense of focus and purpose.

"This is always an exciting time of year. There's new energy in the air, and our coaches and student-athletes are putting in the work to be ready," said Mike Brown, Athletic Director. "We're proud of how far our programs have come, and we're looking forward to the season ahead."

Among this year's highlights is the debut of a brand-new on-campus soccer field, featuring fresh sod and improved playing conditions. Both the men's and women's teams will now host matches on home turf, giving student-athletes and fans an upgraded game-day experience.

Coaches returning this season include Alex Scheuler (men's soccer), Eddie Vongsiprasom (women's soccer), Laurel Durst (women's volleyball), Harvis Cofield (men's basketball), and Cale Conner (esports). Their leadership will guide teams that are shaping up to be balanced, competitive, and team-oriented.

Volleyball and basketball will each benefit from experienced players in key positions and athletic new additions who are expected to contribute early. In esports, the Comets are expanding into more titles and building on last year's competitive foundation. Fans can follow Comets Esports live throughout the season at www.twitch.tv/esportscomets.

Official practices begin soon, but early workouts, preseason planning, and team building have already laid the groundwork for a strong year.

Every program is united by the same commitment: to work hard, support one another, and represent Western Iowa Tech with pride—on the field, on the court, and online.
