Western Iowa Tech Community College has closed out another outstanding year of Motorcycle Rider Training, continuing its commitment to motorcycle safety, rider education, and workforce development in Iowa's transportation industry.
This year, more than 160 riders completed hands-on motorcycle safety courses, and another 270 students finished the online e-course, earning their Iowa motorcycle rider certification. Together, they are part of a growing community of riders who value skill, awareness, and care on the road.
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course (Update) offered through Western Iowa Tech is designed for inexperienced riders as well as those who want to improve their riding skills. This comprehensive, learn-to-ride education and training program includes a five-hour online course covering basic motorcycle knowledge, five hours of classroom instruction with a certified RiderCoach focused on rider perception and risk management, and 11 hours of on-cycle, hands-on instruction. Motorcycles are provided for use during the course.
At Western Iowa Tech, motorcycle training is about more than passing a test. It is about building confidence, responsibility, and genuine care for the road and those who share it. The program is approved by the Iowa Department of Transportation and helps participants qualify for their motorcycle license endorsement.
A huge thank-you to our dedicated instructors and partners for supporting this impactful program that helps keep our roads and riders safe.
The next Motorcycle Rider Course session will begin in Spring 2026. Learn more at www.witcc.edu/corporate/transportation/motorcycle-rider-course and stay tuned for registration updates.
