Upon successful completion of this two-year program, the student is awarded an Associate of Arts Degree (AA). This program follows the prescribed education track to become a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) in the state of Iowa. This degree path also follows an articulation agreement between, University of South Dakota and Western Iowa Tech Community College.
Once the student completes this prescribed set of courses and completes 1,000 hours of supervised experience, the student may take the certification exam to earn a tCADC through the Iowa Board of Substance Abuse Certification www.iowabc.org.
All coursework must be a grade of "C" (70%) or better to be accepted by IBC. Not more than 50% of all coursework directly applicable to the major may be through distance learning per IBC rules for certification.
The Addictions Counseling articulation can be continued at USD for a bachelor's degree in Addiction Counseling & Prevention. It's important that you consult with your faculty advisor, listed in this brochure, to ensure that you meet the requirements for transfer.
