Do you offer Hazmat for truck driving?
Yes. Western Iowa Tech (WITCC) offers Hazmat theory instruction through the online course CTRA-1086.
What are the ELDT requirements under the new regulations?
The Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations set the minimum federal requirements for training that entry-level drivers must complete before taking certain CDL skills or knowledge tests (effective February 7, 2022).
You’ll need to complete:
- A theory class
- A training assessment (for new Class A/B, upgrades, or first-time endorsements, except Hazmat)
For Hazmat, only the theory class is required (no assessment).
Who is considered an entry-level driver?
Entry-level drivers include individuals who are:
- Obtaining a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time
- Upgrading an existing Class B CDL to Class A
- Applying for a school bus (S), passenger (P), or hazardous materials (H) endorsement for the first time
What is the pricing / cost?
The cost depends on which components of the program or endorsements you require (the theory classes, training assessments, endorsements, full class, etc.).
Do you offer Class B training?
Yes - WITCC provides Class B theory online and conducts Class B training assessments. If you're interested in a full Class B training class, contact us at 712.317.3319.
What is the cost for Class B training?

Do I have to pay for two endorsements (school bus and passenger)?

What happens if I don’t pass the training assessment? Do I have to pay again?
You receive two chances during the scheduled assessment time. If you don’t pass, you will need to reschedule and pay again for a new assessment session.
What if I don’t pass the online theory class? Do I have to pay again?
You get two attempts for each chapter of the online theory course. If you don’t reach an 80% score after the second attempt, you have to retake the entire theory course (and pay again).
Is there a passing score requirement?
Yes - you must achieve 80% or higher on both theory and training assessments to pass.
How many attempts do I get for training assessments?

What is the first step I should take?
If you don’t have a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), visit the DMV to take the written general knowledge exam. If needed, take the combination and air brakes tests. Once you have the CLP, you can enroll in the theory class to begin.
What type of truck will I be tested in?
At WITCC, all test vehicles are 10-speed manual transmission rigs with 48- to 53-foot trailers. You may make arrangements to supply your own vehicle for testing or assessments if desired.
