Parking Permits and
Registration of Vehicles

  1. Parking Permits
    For safety reasons, all motor vehicles driven by students and college personnel should be registered. Each vehicle is to have its own permit. Permits are not to be exchanged between vehicles. Students and staff on the WITCC main campus may have more than one vehicle registered. WITCC Housing parking permits are valid on the main campus.
  2. Registration of Vehicles
    Parking permits are free and can be obtained through the Cashier's Office located in the Robert H. Kiser Building (RHK). Please call security for more information. Housing and pink temporary parking permits may be obtained through the Housing Office located in Sioux City at 4701 Stone Avenue, A-3. Please call Housing for more information.

Traffic and Parking Regulations

  1. Parking
    * All students and staff will adhere to the motor vehicle laws of the state of Iowa at Western Iowa Tech Community College
    * Driving a motor vehicle on campus sidewalks is prohibited
    * Bicycles may be used on campus walks, but must yield the right-of-way to pedestrians at all times. Bicycles are to be parked in the bicycle racks in designated areas. Bicycles may not be chained to light poles. Bicycles are not allowed inside the campus buildings.
    Skateboards, rollerblades, and scooters are not allowed inside campus buildings. These aforementioned items are not allowed to "Grind the Rails" on campus properties.
  2. Traffic
    * All students, staff, and faculty will adhere to the traffic laws set forth by the state of Iowa.
    * The speed limit on the Western Iowa Tech main campus drive is 25 mph. The speed limit inside the parking areas is 10 mph.
    * Western Iowa Tech drive is a two lane, one-way street.
    * The inside lane is for turning left and for driving straight. The outside lane is for turning right and for driving straight. Do not make a left-hand turn into the parking areas from the outside lane.
    * Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all times. All vehicles will yield to pedestrians.

Parking and Traffic Fine Schedule

All parking and traffic citations are issued by Western Iowa Tech Security. All fines are recorded and put on the violator's record. Handicapped parking violations are recorded through the state and will be put on the violator's state driving record.

  2. Moving Violation Fine Schedule
    Failure to display valid student ID/drivers license $25
    Improper lane change $25
    Speeding 1-10 mph over the speed limit $25
    Speeding 11+ mph over the speed limit Add $2 for each mile over 10mph
    Reckless/careless driving $50
    Failure to stop for pedestrian at/in crosswalk $50
    Failure to have control $50
    Wrong way on a one-way street $50
    Failure to stop at a stop sign $50
    NOTE: All fines double after the third offense!

Parking and traffic citations can be paid at the Cashier's Window/Student Accounts located in the Robert H. Kiser Building in Sioux City, Iowa. Failure to pay a fine will result in a hold being placed on the student's account, thus preventing future enrollment and transcript requests. Questions or appeals regarding a citation must be directed to the Security Director.

The owners or drivers of vehicles with three or more violations will be required to appear before the Security Director. Owners or drivers of vehicles with three or more violations will be in danger of losing their campus parking privileges. Vehicles with multiple violations may also be towed at the owner's expense.
