Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) has recently been nationally recognized for quality academic programs and the use of innovative technology in education.
WITCC ranked in the top 10 of the Most Innovative Digital Community Colleges in 2016-2017. The Center for Digital Education honors community colleges utilizing technology to engage students and improve learning and services to students, faculty, staff and the community. Mike Logan, WITCC Dean of Information Technologies, explains WITCC technology efforts saying, "Over the past 7 years, we have been re-modeling our classrooms to support all students and faculty utilizing mobile technology to engage in learning and to provide the tools necessary to be successful in today’s market. By providing learning/development opportunities and resources to faculty, and providing technology to our learners, this program has had a positive impact on the student’s experience at Western Iowa Tech. Students can now engage 24 hours a day both in and out of the classroom. With every student having the same technology and with the interactive classroom technology, instructors can prepare their teaching and engagement strategies in a manner that ensures every student can be successful.
Technology advances rapidly and we are constantly adapting to the newest technologies where it make sense for student success. We feel that the future is one of continuous connectivity and the students from Western Iowa Tech will be prepared to meet those challenges in their future endeavors."
The college’s Human Resources Diploma program has been ranked #7 in 2017 by LEAD (Leadership Excellence and Development). Academic programs were selected based upon both a nomination process as well as ratings from students and participants. Sandra Muller, WITCC faculty says, "Our Human Resources Diploma program offers flexibility and balance for our students. Whether taking classes on campus or online, the program offers an opportunity for students who are new to the HR field or for someone looking to advance their career. As an instructor, having the opportunity to help enrich and nurture someone's career growth is one of the most rewarding experiences.”
Western Iowa Tech was ranked #4 nationally in 2017 for its Online/Hybrid Nursing Program by RN to BSN Online Programs. This service is dedicated to connecting nurses to online degree programs through their site and features the best online programs from across the country. WITCC Nursing Instructor, Kelli Flack adds, "The Nursing Hybrid program is a great way for nursing students to work and to continue their nursing degree! The nursing hybrid program is a combination of face to face and online learning! The success of being a nurse and friendships gained is tremendous. The college’s Video Game Design program has been ranked 3rd nationally in 2017 for Best Game Design Schools and Programs at 2-Year Colleges. This ranking from the Community for Accredited Online Schools assures students that programs meet quality education standards. Frank Heffner, WITCC Video Game Design Instructor comments, "The Western Iowa Tech Community College Video Game Design program provides a solid grounding in the skillsets necessary to become a video game artist or technical artist and provides up-to-date technology, affordable tuition, and many other advantages such as reasonable cost-of-living expenses.”
