FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is an important first step to the financial aid process. Filling out the FAFSA application is your path to thousands of dollars in financial aid to help you pay for college.

Start your FAFSA application
- Apply to WITCC
Your financial aid is processed after you apply to Western Iowa Tech Community College. Complete your free online application. You will need to create an account. Keep your username and password handy, so that you can start and stop your application at any time. We will save your progress.

- Check "My Financial Aid" on MyWIT
A few days after completing your WITCC application, you will receive your MyWIT login credentials in a letter. Make sure you hang onto this information. Use your credentials to log onto MyWIT. In MyWIT, check your school email and My Financial Aid section often. MyWIT email and My Financial Aid will be how the college communicates with you about your financial aid awards, notifications, and billing statements.

- Verification/Additional Information Needed
You may be selected for verification which means additional information is needed before your FAFSA can be process. If you are selected for verification, the school will notify you by letter and MyWIT email. My Financial Aid on MyWIT will have a list of missing or needed information. Provide the requested information as soon as possible. Your financial aid cannot be processed until the information has been provided.
- Accept Your Award
Once your FAFSA has been processed (may take 4-6 weeks) and you have submitted the additional information, you will receive an award notification in your school email. You will be directed to go to "My Financial Aid" on MyWIT. To see your financial aid package of federal, state, and work study money, go to "Financial Information", "Financial Aid", and select "My Awards."
- Entrance Counseling
If you have accepted federal loans and are a new student, you are required to complete entrance counseling. This helps you understand your responsibilities of taking out a loan.

- Master Promissory Note
You may also need to complete a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note, also called MPN. It is a legal document where you promise to repay your federal student loans as well as any accrued interest and fees.

- Fill Out Your FAFSA Each Year
The FAFSA form is not a one-time thing. You must complete a FAFSA form for each school year. FAFSA's for the following school year are available starting October 1. Remember, processing your FAFSA can take up to 6-8 weeks.
- View Your Account
To view your tuition balance, make a payment, and review transactions, go to my account on MyWIT.
- Log into my.witcc.edu.
- Enter MyWIT username and password
