I recently took the CDL course at WIT. I thought the program was very organized and well structured. There was a good mixture of classroom and actual hands on training and driving. I think Rod Herron was very knowledgeable. I learned many valuable skills while taking the course, as well as received a few leads on possible jobs. I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in the transportation industry. Tony Movick
I would highly recommend this course at WITCC. Rod and Tony are excellent instructors. The class is geared toward adults. You will get out of it what you put into it. If you read the manuals and study diligently, they will teach you how to drive. Good luck. John Fisher
From learning how to shift a 10- or 13-speed, to backing up a van, flatbed, or tanker, to conducting pre-trip inspections, our instructor made learning what we needed to know about driving a truck easy AND fun. I saw right away that Rod has a lot of connections in the trucking industry. Businesses come to him looking for drivers. He also has a lot of knowledge the industry in general so he is able to point students in the right direction. I know without a doubt that this man cares about his students and their futures. He listened to me, talked to me, and encouraged me every day and I never once felt judged by him. I graduated in August of 2016 and gained employment at a local trucking company less than a week after graduation. For the first time in my life I have a career and I've never been happier. Recruiting for CDL drivers these days is very challenging. Currently it's a trucker's market. When I'm looking for quality CDL holders I always give Western Iowa Tech a call. To date, we have hired over 10 drivers that have completed the driving program at WITCC, we have retained over 75% of them. The potential new hires are tested on Pre/Post Trip inspections, skills, and road tested. Great job Rod, you are doing a wonderful job instructing the new CDL holders. I can justify all of this as I am also a graduate of the program. Mike Bertrand Trucking Coordinator
I came to a crossroad in life like many. I was feeling unfulfilled with the job I had at the time - living pay check by pay check to support my family. Something had to change. I found a job that allowed me to advance, letting me work full-time during the day and pursue my goal of getting a education in the evening. Within the journey I met a energetic instructor named Tony. My classmates and myself were encouraged individually and as a group, and he gave valuable advice through out the class. I found the program was tremendously beneficial. The guidance made us all confident in pursuing our dreams. Jeff Hoose
