From learning how to shift a 10- or 13-speed, to backing up a van, flatbed, or tanker, to conducting pre-trip inspections, our instructor made learning what we needed to know about driving a truck easy AND fun. I saw right away that Rod has a lot of connections in the trucking industry. Businesses come to him looking for drivers. He also has a lot of knowledge the industry in general so he is able to point students in the right direction.
I know without a doubt that this man cares about his students and their futures. He listened to me, talked to me, and encouraged me every day and I never once felt judged by him.
I graduated in August of 2016 and gained employment at a local trucking company less than a week after graduation. For the first time in my life I have a career and I've never been happier.

I would highly recommend this course at WITCC. Rod and Tony are excellent instructors. The class is geared toward adults. You will get out of it what you put into it. If you read the manuals and study diligently, they will teach you how to drive. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your teaching over the past year or so. I have appreciated the opportunity of learning new things through this process. I really enjoy your style, not only in your instructing, but in your personal interaction with each of us as well.
Continued success to you and the WIT Team.

I came to a crossroad in life like many. I was feeling unfulfilled with the job I had at the time - living pay check by pay check to support my family. Something had to change.
I found a job that allowed me to advance, letting me work full-time during the day and pursue my goal of getting a education in the evening. Within the journey I met a energetic instructor named Tony. My classmates and myself were encouraged individually and as a group, and he gave valuable advice through out the class. I found the program was tremendously beneficial. The guidance made us all confident in pursuing our dreams.

When I contacted Western Iowa Tech three years ago, I was searching for training that would enhance our leadership teams knowledge and skills here at Mid-Step Services. We have gotten received so much more. Carmen and Rebbel have uniquely identified real life leadership experiences and issues that management face on a day-to-day basis. Most importantly, they presented the topics in dynamic ways which that encourage discussion and learning with 'real life' skills that our leaders can utilize immediately. The program did not require has not resulted in extensive time commitments out of the office. Western Iowa Tech Community Colleges Corporate College department has been instrumental in helping us to:
* Strengthen our leaders effectiveness
* Build a strong team and positive work environment
* Address challenging management issues
Building an effective leadership team takes time, desire and hard work. If you are ready to put in the effort, I can assure you that working with the team at Western Iowa Tech will produce positive results.

We've worked with WITCC for quite a few years now to assist us in providing employee educational options and opportunities, such as HPM, HPM2, and the series of Excel Level Trainings to name a few. We continue to partner with Michael, Carmen and Rebbel for a few primary reasons: They know and help our employees relate to the material they teach, they are extremely accommodating and flexible to work with and they're always looking for ways to work with us in better educating our workforce. Really, they often feel like a part of our organization with the level of investment they place in our employee experience. It's been a great working with this team and I'm sure it will be for many more years.

Initially, we chose WITCC because of their High-Performance Management (HPM) program; however, we have continued to use them over the last three years due to their ability to customize their program to match our company's goals and initiatives.
Rebbel takes the time to get to know our organization, asks the right questions, then develops training based on what we want to accomplish. Rebbel has a way of connecting with our team members by using real workplace/life examples to pull it all together. Our teams look forward to having her back each year!

I recently took the CDL course at WIT. I thought the program was very organized and well structured. There was a good mixture of classroom and actual hands on training and driving. I think Rod Herron was very knowledgeable. I learned many valuable skills while taking the course, as well as received a few leads on possible jobs. I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in the transportation industry.

Recruiting for CDL drivers these days is very challenging. Currently it's a trucker's market. When I'm looking for quality CDL holders I always give Western Iowa Tech a call. To date, we have hired over 10 drivers that have completed the driving program at WITCC, we have retained over 75% of them. The potential new hires are tested on Pre/Post Trip inspections, skills, and road tested. Great job Rod, you are doing a wonderful job instructing the new CDL holders. I can justify all of this as I am also a graduate of the program.
