Coaching Authorization

If you do not hold a teaching license must fully complete the coaching authorization coursework by face-to-face or on-line courses. In the fifty-five hour face-to-face course, the course will span over a three week time period on the WITCC Sioux City campus. The book is provided in the course cost. Individuals apply for the coaching license through the BoEE website and complete the background check and concussion training, then upload these documents to the BoEe website. Once approved by the BoEE, then may coach as a head or assistant coach for grades K-12.

Coaching Endorsement

WITCC offers credit courses toward the Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement. The endorsement is designed for licensed Iowa teachers or those individuals pursuing their teaching degree. Once the required coursework for college credit and other requirements are met, a coaching endorsement is added to their teaching license and the individuals may serve as a head or assistant coach for grades K-12.

Both Endorsement & Authorization require the theory of coaching and ethics, human growth and development, structure and function of the human body, care and prevention of athletic injures.

In order to receive a Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement, the Board of Educational Examiners (BoEE) requirements include:

  1. Applicants must be over 18 years old
  2. Concussion course - a free course offered through the National Federation of State High School Association
  3. BoEE Application - $85 fee
  4. FBI Background Check - $75 fee.
