Coaching Authorization/Endorsement

According to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BoEE), "All coaches (Paid OR VOLUNTEER) are required to have either a coaching authorization or a coaching endorsement listed on a valid teaching license."
WITCC offers credit courses for students pursuing either the Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement. While everyone takes these same courses and must complete the same requirements, a coaching endorsement is added to a teacher's teaching license once the required coursework for college credit and other requirements are met.

Both the Endorsement & Authorization require the theory of coaching and ethics, human growth and development, structure and function of the human body, care and prevention of athletic injures.

In order to receive a Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement, the Board of Educational Examiners (BoEE) requirements include:

  1. Applicants must be over 18 years old
  2. Concussion course - a free course offered through the National Federation of State High School Association
  3. BoEE Application - $85 fee
  4. FBI Background Check - $75 fee.
