Denison Campus

Through a community partnership, the Denison campus was constructed and opened in 1993, The 20,000 square-foot facility was expanded and remodeled in 2003. Courses are offered face to face, video presence and on-line. The facility houses ten classrooms (three of which are video presence classrooms), science lab, nursing lab, nursing simulation room, HVAC lab, two computer labs and a learning resource room.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course The goal of the Basic Life Support (BLS) Course is to train participants to save lives of victims in cardiac arresst through high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The American Heart Association (AHA) designed the BLS Course to teach healthcare professionals how to perform high-quality CPR individually or as part of a team. BLS skills are applicable to any healthcare setting. BLS students will learn rescue techniques for adults, children, and infants. At the end of the BLS Course, students will be able to: - Describe the importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival - Describe all of the steps of the Chain of Survival - Apply the BLS concepts of the Chain of Survival - Recognize the signs of someone needing CPR - Perform high-quality CPR for an adult - Describe the importance of early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) - Demonstrate the appropriate use of an AED - Provide effective ventilation by using a barrier device - Perform high-quality CPR for a child - Perform high-quality CPR for an infant - Describe the importance of teams in multirescue resuscitation - Perform as an effective team member during multirescue CPR - Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for an adult or child - Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for an infant Course includes skills practice, skills testing, and a written test.
