Adult Learners

Ready to go back to school?

Whether you're starting your education, finishing a degree you started, or just looking to add to the job skills you already have, we understand the obstacles you may run into on your way... more than 30 percent of our students are adult learners. We'll help you get going and work with you through the process using the steps below.

  1. Choose a Program
Do you know what program you're interested in? If so, move to the next step. If not, that's okay. On this step we can help you pick a program using this easy Career Interest Survey.
If you prefer to browse through the list and pick one, you can find a list of programs grouped by area.
  2. Apply Online
You will need to apply to the college if you haven't already. The application is online, easy, and free. Click here to complete the application.
  3. Financial Aid
Most students (91%) apply for financial aid of some kind. Start with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Use school code 004590 for WITCC so we get your information.
We also have several scholarship opportunities available as well that can be added to the financial aid package you receive. And you can set up a payment plan to help you with what isn't covered by assistance.
  4. Take the Computerized Placement Tests (CPT)
Not every program requires a CPT to be taken. Check with your admissions advisor when you register to see if your program requires a CPT. If it does, contact the Testing Center to get that taken care of so we can move forward with getting you registered for all the classes you need.
  5. Register for Classes
Now that you know what you want to do, we can get your registered for classes. Please give us a call or stop in to get registered the first time. We like to meet you and get to know you so we can work on the best plan for your goals. We offer flexible schedules, including online classes and programs, to help work around your busy life. Register early to get the classes that are best for you before they fill up!
  6. Get Books and Supplies
Now that you have your schedule set, you can get the books and supplies you'll need. You can do this a couple of different ways. We'd welcome you to come to the bookstore at our Sioux City campus to get your books and supplies. This gives you a chance to look around campus while you're here.
If you can't make it to campus, you can go to our online bookstore to get your books and have them delivered to you or you can pick them up.
