Cherokee County Promise

Starting in the fall of 2018, Cherokee county residents will be able to take free college courses through the Western Iowa Tech Community College Cherokee campus. This initiative is called The Cherokee County Promise, and is intended to cover the cost of tuition and fees after financial aid has been applied.

Eligibility

  • Residents of Cherokee County enrolled in traditional or online classes through the Cherokee campus.
  • Students currently enrolled in classes at WITCC in Cherokee.
  • Students will be required to sign a commitment letter indicating their intent to work and live in Cherokee County for three years post-graduation.

Programs

Programs available to students in the fall include:

  • Nursing
  • Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees with specific programs in
    • Accounting
    • Business Administration
    • Early Childhood
    • English
    • History
    • Mathematics
    • Political Science
    • Psychology
    • Sociology
    • Welding
  • Future career and technical programs being explored include Construction, Social Work and Ag Transfer.

A Leadership Committee made of business leaders in Cherokee are working closely with WITCC to raise donations to fund the project. Leadership Committee members include:
