The Medical Laboratory Technician performs a full range of laboratory testsfrom a simple blood glucose test to complex tests to uncover diseases such as AIDS and cancer. Medical Laboratory Technicians must work quickly and accurately. The information they give to the doctors influences the medical treatment a patient receives. In their search for data on a patients health, Medical Laboratory Technicians obtain blood samples from patients of all ages. They analyze blood, urine and other body fluids using a microscope or other complex precision instruments.

Program Length and Graduation Requirements
Medical Laboratory Technician is a collaborative program between Western Iowa Tech Community College and Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge. Students can take their general education requirements at WITCC, specialized course work at ICCC, and clinical practicum courses at clinical sites within the Merged Area XII.
