Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) will hold its graduation exercises May 23 for area residents who have successfully completed the General Educational Development (GED) examination. The program has graduated 248 individuals since May 2009. The ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium in the Corporate College building at WITCC's Sioux City campus. The public is invited to attend. The program's keynote speaker is Larry Wentz, news anchor for KCAU-TV, Channel 9. Other featured speakers will be 2010 GED graduate Justin Van Roekel and Kerry Ogden, GED specialist for YouthBuild Sioux City. The GED certificates will be presented by a member of the WITCC board of directors. The Western Iowa Tech Board Scholarships will be presented by Dr. Robert Dunker, WITCC president. Martin Reimer, Corporate College dean, will introduce the participants. Patricia Sutherland, associate dean of students, will present the GED Achievement Award. Pamela Woolridge, a WITCC staff member, will be the vocalist. The GED rigorously measures academic ability generally associated with four years of regular high school and provides the opportunity for graduates to pursue higher education and enhance career choices.
