Use this Getting Started Guide to assist students through the process of applying and registering at WITCC. If you would like to print a copy of this guide, click here.
Apply for Admissions
You can apply for admissions online at www.witcc.edu/registration and click the
Application Online link on the left. This is free, and only takes a few minutes. Applying online will start the process of getting them in our system, getting a Welcome letter sent out and getting their credentials set up so they can log into the student site to register for classes and more. You can also fill out the pdf application (also a link on www.witcc.edu/registration) and mail the application in. This, however, does slow down the admissions process since everything has to go through the mail and be manually processed. You can also apply over the phone by calling 712.274.6403.
When you apply, make sure your high school sends your transcript to us, as well as any college where you may have taken classes. Have the transcript sent to:
Western Iowa Tech Community College
Attn: Transcripts
PO Box 5199
Sioux City, Iowa 51102-5199.
Take the Computerized Placement Test (CPT)
Make an appointment with the Testing Center at 712.274.6443 to take the CPT.
There are sample questions available any time at www.witcc.edu/testing_center/cpt.cfm.
Allow approximately and hour and a half to take the test.
Bring a photo I.D. with you.
After taking the test, meet with an advisor for test interpretation. Based on your scores, they can tell you what classes you may need to take.
Apply for Financial Aid/Student Loans
Financial Aid is very important in many student lives. Apply for federal financial aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Do this as soon as you know you will be attending WITCC. Our school code is 004590. You will need this code when applying for aid.
WITCC offers many scholarships. You can apply for scholarships on MyWIT (https://my.witcc.edu) when your account is set up, which is generally one business day after you apply online. You will receive your login information immediately when you apply online, or in the mail if you apply over the phone or through mail. You need only fill out the scholarship application once, and you will be eligible for any scholarship for which you meet the criteria.
If you have any questions or need any assistance through this process, you can call 712.274.6402.
Apply for Housing
There are two housing options; Bur Oak Suites, a traditional dorm-style housing option and Sun Ridge Court, an apartment-style housing option. Housing fills up quickly, so apply right away.
